Practice

Since its formation in 2004, ColladoCollins has embraced the challenges of complex mixed-use design to create successful buildings and urban environments. We secure planning permissions through openness, sensitivity and tenacity to produce commercial schemes that are deliverable.
The practice operates across several sectors, combining a strong design ethos with sound technical strength through every stage of the design process. Unlike many firms who specialise in one particular area, our unique approach ensures that our designs are informed by our experience across a wide range of schemes.

ColladoCollins brings a unique approach to the process of designing and developing buildings. We combine a full understanding of the commercial challenges facing our clients with a sensitive, sustainable approach. We ensure every building we work on perfectly fits its surrounding area in an environmentally conscious and visually arresting way.
We work on a broad range of projects, ranging from highly complex masterplanning work to unique and highly individual residential schemes.
The thread that ties our work together is our approach. Every one of our clients has a unique set of requirements and our consultative, immersive methods ensure every outcome is different. Each project we undertake offers a powerful aesthetic without jeopardising the environmental or commercial demands.
From early planning stages through to implementation and practical completion, it is our passion and expertise that has delivered over 100 successful projects over the last nine years to clients across the globe.
ColladoCollins has a collective, in-depth understanding of the building process with unrivalled skill at unravelling complex planning issues and implementing contemporary, innovative design solutions.

Passivhaus is the world’s most rigorous energy standard for building energy and comfort performance. The standard has been developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany, and was initially based on the physics behind achieving high levels of indoor comfort.
The result is healthy, low energy, high quality buildings that increase the life of a building whilst also lowering its whole life costs. The Passivhaus standard places a huge emphasis on getting the design right so that a building does not require any applied technologies to achieve it low energy goals. The standard can be met through a wide variety of construction methods and is applicable to any building type.
The core principles of achieving Passivhaus are;
· Reducing, if not eliminating, the need to space heating and active cooling
· High levels of insulation
· Airtight construction
· Eliminating thermal bridging
· Analysing local conditions to ensure solar gain is optimised
· Fresh air requirements met through highly efficient MVHR systems with heat recovery
· Placing caps on the energy required for heating
Passivhaus homes use 75% less energy than new build UK homes. Furthermore, they are designed to avoid mould growth resulting in healthier buildings for occupants. It is a voluntary standard which has been delivered and tested for over 20 years, its strict and independent certification process ensures that its claims are credible and of benefit to the occupier.
At ColladoCollins we feel the standard is one the best ways to deliver environmentally responsible buildings. We have a number of certified Passivhaus designers in our team and actively support our staff in furthering their training and knowledge in all aspects of sustainable design.
