Joao Bravo da Costa
João Bravo da Costa joined Collado Collins in 2016. Through more than 40 projects in 4 continents, ranging in scale from urban master plans to private residences, his experience includes roles in designing, leading, and building relationships with peers, clients, and public authorities.
Previously with OMA in Rotterdam, João was involved in the design of the headquarters and cultural centre for the China Central Television corporation (CCTV / TVCC). Other notable projects in his experience include the winning competition entry for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Penang Tropical City.
In the UK, João has collaborated with Foster + Partners on the Apple Headquarters 2 in Cupertino, California, for which he contributed site design as well as workspace concept development. More recently, with Grimshaw, he has led teams involved in the new Euston Station terminal for the UK’s High-Speed 2 railway, and a proposal for a new underground station and high-rise residential development in the London area of Nine Elms.
João obtained a degree in Architecture from the UTL in Lisbon (1999) and a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Architectural Association in London (2008), where he also taught between 2009 and 2012. He has directed an AA Visiting School and is a guest critic and lecturer at the AA and Syracuse University. His design work and writing have been published in a+u, AD magazine, Conditions, and the AA Press.
João’s enduring professional motivation is to combine critical ability with creative skill. He is currently working on a master plan for a residential development in London.
